Derr's photographic vision tends to focus mostly on close-up and macro views of everyday objects. With his eye for composition Derr records the amazing abstract quality of these objects, transforming them into worlds of mystery and wonder. The "Ice" series has been called "one of the most amazing collection of photos of something we often don't take the time to notice". This can also be said of his "Rust", "Cross-cut Wood" series as well of many of his "Random" shots.
