Finished this one a few weeks ago. Another assemblage, found this old toolbox, added Queen Ann legs and rusted them, treated the box with gold leaf and paint. Added the additional wood to the front and rusted that, then added the 2 horse hames to the front and a doorknob to help lift the top. On the top is a 3 diamond motif done in gold leaf and then tinted down with paint to give an old look. It is now available at The Lafayette Mill Antique Center for $375.
David Derr's Zoyg assemblages are creations of playfulness. The assemblages are also an experiment in creating pieces that would attract three art collectors of three markets, Folk Art, Antiques, and Contemporary Art. The "Zoyg" series incorporate all sorts of found object, however many of them start with basic childrens play blocks.
They run anywhere from $30 - $85 and are available at Lafayette Mill Antiques in Lafayette, NJ. New pieces are being created all the time so if your favorite gets sold be patient.
I believe that humanities major talent is making symbols. We have been this way since the beginnings of our existence as a race. It is the reason we have a written language, music, painting, sculpture, dance, mathematics, the sciences and our entire civilization. This is the cornerstone of what it is to be a thinking human being. My painting, mixed media and digital works are his explorations into the creative spirit.
